Gender Issues
Broken Boys?
(caterina.net)
There's something so wounding about growing up a boy, especially a broken-hearted sensitive boy stuck in a tough-guy demographic with no fine words for his finer feelings. There was something about this scene that made my heart clutch because that guy was going to remember that moment when he tried to speak his heart, and was swiftly and utterly silenced. Pretty good recounting of an eavesdropping on a couple of guy's guys conversating about one of the fellows' recent breakup. Women always say they wish men could be more emotive and in touch with their feelings, and here was a muscle-beach guy who just couldn't get the words out, and even if he could, his knucklehead friend wouldn't have been able to grok it anyway. Women say they want guys who can be more sensitive and expressive, but BoyCaught thinks that they mostly want those guys only if the fellow will listen to their stories. As soon as a guy like this found a way to pour his heart out through his mouth, everyone, girl- and guy-friends alike, would start heading toward the hills. So what's the manly solution to all of this? Of course: violence.
